Healthy Living Programs

Our Healthy Living Programs provide those in need with free access to courses in the arts and extracurricular activities.

What exactly are we doing?

Foundation For The Arts is helping fund and organize courses for the residents (adults and children alike) at facilities that promote health and healing in order for them to experience various forms of the arts. Whether it’s through visual arts, performing arts, design or education, we’re inviting artists and educators to share their passions in order to spark hope and joy in the lives of those who could use it most.

Why is it important?

The arts can play a vital role in education and becoming a happier, healthier human being, but some people have had little or no such access to explore these simple joys of life. Instead, they have had to focus on survival.

People living in transitional housing, group homes, or sober living homes are temporarily being removed from their fight for survival, being given a roof over their head, food to eat and a chance to attend therapy. With this space to breath, they are able to heal, to explore who they are and to experience simple joys again.

The trouble though, is that it can be a struggle for facilities to provide even the basics of shelter, food and therapy, so the arts are an easy sacrifice. By coordinating with volunteers, providing finances for materials and intentionally organizing joyful experiences, we’re hoping to relieve the staff and therapists at each facility so that they can focus on all other areas of recovery while we focus on the arts.

Foundation For The Arts is committed to partnering with passionate, professional, inspirational artists to help remind people that they have more value, talent and important individuality than they were previously aware. We’re hoping these programs bring small moments of peace to difficult situations and ultimately show people that they are worthy to explore who they are.

Our Current Classes

We are connecting with professionals in Santa Barbara who are passionate about volunteering their time and skills to teach victims of sex trafficking (girls aged 12-18) who may have never had the opportunity to explore the arts. Foundation For The Arts will provide funds for the materials of each course as well as organize transportation to and from the remote, mountain-top refuge. We’re partnering with Hope Refuge staff to ensure that their girls receive the best, most enjoyable experience in the arts so they can see that there is hope for their lives beyond what they’ve known thus far.
